Yeah, I know, I should of waited till November to post this but tuff cookies, I doing it now. Maybe by next November I'll have a different story.
It was early Thanksgiving morning.
Eve rolled over to give Kevin a hug but he wasn't there. Opening one eye, she see's him looking out the window.
"What's wrong Kevin?"
"Nothing wrong, I was just watching the morning sun come up and I didn't want to wake you.
You've been very restless lately. Is the baby active at night?"
"No Kevin," Eve said with a smile. "I've just been having these weird dreams lately.
It's probably something to do with the pregnancy either that or that newest horror story that Lucy and Ian wrote about.
I never thought those two could write such good stories about vampires, wear wolfs and the boogy man. But hey, stranger things have happened.
I still don't like the way she killed me off."
"Well, as long as it's just a story and not for real," Kevin said slipping back into bed.
"I don't think I could go threw that again. It was hard enough when I thought you died a few years ago, I don't think I could go threw that again.
So are you ready for Thanksgiving at the Scanlons?" Kevin said with a little bit of sarcasm.
"Ready as I'll ever be. God, I hope Victor doesn't have anything from the past at dinner this year. I really don't think I can take anything that was caught in the wild this year.
As a matter of fact, I know my stomach wouldn't be able to take it. The tofu turkey they have for Lucy is hard enough to think about," Eve said making a sour face.
"It's going to be different this year, I can say this much. It's hard to believe that Chris and Frank are dating but hey whatever make a person happy," Kevin said looking into Eve's dark brown eyes.
He then leans over a kisses her deeply.
"God, Eve I love you with all of my heart and soul. You and this baby make me complete."
"I love you so much Kevin. You've taught me how to love," Eve said, " and how to be loved."
Eve all of a sudden took a deep breath in looking at Kevin with a sudden surprise.
"What's wrong Eve?"
"My contraction have started.
This is the second one. The first one woke me up.
I don't think were going to make it to dinner this year Kevin," Eve said pulling forward toward Kevin.
"Are you sure Eve?" Kevin said getting up startled.
"Yes, Kevin this is it," Eve said with a big smile and then some excitement in her voice "Kevin my water just broke."
"I'll get the car and you call the Dr.," Kevin said as he stubbed his foot on the night stand. "Son of a witch!"
"Kevin you alright?"
"Dammit, yes Eve, I'm fine."
"Good, now be careful.," Eve said with a snicker.
15 hours later.............
"Here she is, Mr. and Mrs. Collins, your new daughter," Chris said smiling at them both. "What are you going to name my god child?"
"Your god child? Tell me one thing Ramsey, are you going to let me hold her?" Eve said.
"Sure, why not."
Eve and Kevin looked at each other with a huge smile and together they said, "her name is Barbara Ray Collins, welcome to the world!"
"Ahhhhhhhh!," Eve screamed out.
"Eve, what's wrong!?" Kevin's heart skipping a few beats and his happiness goes from joy to horror.
"Chris, that wasn't a shadow on the ultra-sound!
Oh god, this one really hurts! Take it out! Oh nuts, somethings wrong!," tears are streaming down Eve's cheeks.
"Chris, Kevin help! Do something! This doesn't feel right!"
Kevin hands Barbara over to Colleen at the same time Chris checks out Eve.
"Eve it's breach," Chris says with worry in his breath. Eve was too weak to go threw another strenuous delivery, it had to be taken by emergency C section.
"Colleen, get Kevin out of here," Chris motioned to her.
"Chris, that's my wife! You can't do this, I want to stay here! What if she needs me!," Kevin says trying to stay in the delivery room.
"Your too involved, you know the rules.
Colleen get him out of here," Chris motioning to Colleen while calling for an anesthesiologist.
Eve is crying out to Kevin, in obvious pain, to stay with her.
Before she has a chance to cry out again, the anesthesiologist is placing a mask over her face trying to get her to breath deep. "Come on Dr. Collins, count back wards from 10."
"No! Kevin!," she yelled out as her world goes black.
Kevin waits outside the door with tears in his eyes. Waiting is the hardest thing to do when you can't do anything to help your family.
"Monk what's happening?," Victor asks putting his hand on Kevin's shoulder.
"There was a shadow on the last ultra-sound. Everything appeared to be fine, so we didn't worry," Kevin takes a deep breath and continues.
"'A one in a million chance that it was another baby' said the technician.
Victor, it's breach. She was screaming out in pain and there was nothing that I could do, nothing. I can't loose her again," Kevin starts to shake as he cries. "If anything happens to her, I'm not going to be able to go on," Kevin chokes out.
"Monk stop it. It's going to be fine, trust me," Victor say gently to Kevin as any parent would trying to sooth their child.
Trying to take away the pain of not knowing, the fear of what could be. Death of a child and wife.
'Not now,' Victor thought. 'This is Thanksgiving. Please, god don't do this, not now. How much more can my family suffer?'
An hour later, Chris walks to wards Kevin.
There was a grin on Chris's face. Kevin looked at him as if the weight of the world has been lifted off of his shoulders.
"It's a boy. Mother and babies are going to be fine.
The boy is 10 pounds and Barbara was what, 8 pounds. No wonder Eve was so big.
Eve's being taken to recovery, I'll send a nurse out to get you when we get her settled. Congratulations, Dad!," Chris said wiping his brow.
"Twins, one of each. Victor, the best news of all, she's going to be just fine. Eve's going to be just fine.
Thank God!," Kevin exclaims hugging Victor.
Family and friends smile and laugh knowing that it's going to be alright.
"Everyone, happy Thanksgiving!" Kevin screams out.
The nurse goes out to the waiting room to get Kevin and brings him to recovery.
Kevin sits next to Eve, waiting for her to wake up.
As her eyes flutter open, Kevin smiles wiping the hair from Eve's eyes.
"What did we have?," Eve whispers to Kevin.
"It's a boy and by all counts, he's doing very well, or about as well as can be without his mother," Kevin lean over and kisses Eve.
"What are we going to call him?," Eve half asks but was hoping what they had discussed earlier in the pregnancy was acceptable.
"Anything you want, Eve."
"Well," Eve yawns. "Kevin, come meet your children."
Eve motions to Kevin to go over to the bassinets.
"Barbara we've already named and Kevin Christopher. Do you like that?"
"As long as your happy, I really don't care," Kevin smiled as he looked at his children.
"Happy Thanksgiving, Eve."
"Happy Thanksgiving, Kevin," Eve said yawning.
"I'll leave now. I love you, Eve," Kevin said leaning over and kissing Eve.
"I love you also, Kevin," Eve said quietly drifting off into a restful sleep.
